Our Top Long Weekend Packing Tips

We don’t know about you but we’re getting excited about the prospect of escaping the city for a few days this Queen’s Birthday long weekend!

Planning an escape is a magical feeling but it’s easy to get carried away while packing for a short trip. Whether you’re planning a lavish, wine-and-dine getaway in the Margaret River region or chasing the sun, sand and surf up at Coral Bay, we’ve got a few hot tips to make prepping your holiday a whole lot easier!

Rule Number One…

Pack a few key essentials that can seamlessly take you from day-to-night. Leave the statement pieces at home, packing for a short trip is all about packing pieces that can be integrated into a variety of situations. Choose clothes in neutral tones and leave the pops of colour to your accessories.

This goes for shoe choices as well, neutral tones and metallics are not only completely on-trend they go with absolutely everything! Our top picks for providing all-day style and comfort are Mephisto Gyna in ice or bronze metallic and Stonefly 108203 in cloud white.

Rule Number Two…

Downsize your toiletries. The biggest mistake people make when packing for short trips is not considering how much product they will actually use. Make use of combination items like two-in-one shampoos and conditioners, multi-use makeup products and body gels that double as face cleansers. Another space saver is purchasing empty containers of various shapes and sizes to hold your products rather than taking the original packaging. Lastly, keep to the basics. Simplify your skincare and make up collection – it’s only temporary.

Similarly, sticking to the basics applies to your shoes choices as well. Keep it simple with a lightweight, comfortable pair of sneakers like Bugatti’s Kelli or Ara’s 34046 and a versatile sandal like Gino Ventori Soho or Silver Lining Maia. Know you’ll need something a bit more elegant at night? Stick to one pair of supportive heels like Pikolinos Vigo wedge or Arche Faroma.

Rule Number Three…

Pack light. Seems quite obvious but this can be a difficult one especially when it comes to choosing shoes and jackets. Opting for a lightweight, down jacket or vest over a big, bulky coat is always a good option if you’re headed somewhere a bit chilly. Even if you’re headed to a warmer destination it’s always a good choice to pack a cardigan and layer if you need to. If you have to take a coat, wear it on the plane or in the car rather than letting it take up much needed space in your suitcase.

For lightweight shoes, we can’t go past recommending Arcopedico. Labelled the “ultimate travel shoe” for a reason, most styles weigh less than 5g, have a mouldable lytech upper that can be squished into any suitcase (no matter how full) and are designed for unparalleled comfort and all-day support. Our favourites are Leina with an enclosed toe and the new Antalia mesh sandal.

Don’t let the stress of packing ruin the anticipation of your well-deserved break - follow these simple rules when packing and you will have all bases covered without the hefty suitcase! Shop our recommended styles in store and online today at www.paulcarroll.com.au
